Hospitals and Health Centers
A hospital at Chikankata Mission was officially opened in May 1947 by Sir John Waddington, then governor of Northern Rhodesia. The hospital bore the inscription “To Serve God and the People” at its entrance, reflecting its founding mission of service. Over time, this institution expanded into a broader center of development, giving rise to several key establishments, including the Chikankata College of Biomedical Sciences, the Chikankata School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Chikankata Radio, which was officially opened in 1966 under the mission of spreading hope and positive values. The mission also encompasses Chikankata Secondary School, which is widely recognized by the government as one of the best-performing schools in the country. In addition, the territory supports 19 community schools strategically established to cater to vulnerable children who are unable to access formal education. These schools provide learning opportunities either free of charge or at minimal cost, without strict requirements for uniforms or shoes, thereby promoting inclusive access to education.
