Schools and Education

Schools

The Salvation Army was among the earliest Christian denominations to play a significant role in the development of formal education in Zambia. From the colonial period onward, the church viewed education as an essential component of its evangelical and social mission, particularly among marginalized and rural communities. As a result, the Salvation Army established and continues to manage a wide network of educational institutions across the country.

A notable example is Chikankata High School, which reflects the church’s long-standing commitment to secondary education. In addition to such institutions, the church runs numerous primary schools strategically located in both urban and rural areas, aimed at improving access to basic education.

Beyond primary education, the Salvation Army also operates several secondary boarding schools that provide structured academic instruction alongside moral and spiritual formation. These institutions have contributed to the development of disciplined, well-rounded students and continue to play an important role in Zambia’s education sector.
